My RIO 2016 Olympic Diary: From Phnom Penh to RIO……a tale of the Oracle.

After a brief departure ceremony at the Airport, the Cambodian team checked into their flight PG 936 but due to the heavy rain, the flight was delayed and the team had to take solace at the Bangkok Airways Lounge at the airport. However after about 45 minutes delay from the initial departure time, the team boarded and took the short flight to Bangkok where they had to endure about 6 hours of transit.

The flight from Bangkok to Dubai took about 6 hours and was quite smooth with no turbulence and the team landed in Dubai at about 5:30am. It was a short connection time and we had to change terminal to board for RIO. At Dubai we met several other athletes and officials from different countries especially Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, China, Korea and it was indeed a full flight.

After 13 hours and 45 minutes Flight EK 247 touched down at Galeao International Airport and after airport formalities the team took a 2 hour bus ride to the Athletes games Village arriving at about 16:30.

The Delegation Registration Meeting was originally scheduled for 18:00 and without which the athletes cannot have access to the Games Village residences and so had to wait for the process to complete.

Luckily the RIO 2016 Organizing committee brought the DRM by one hour earlier and so the CDM Nhan Sokvisal, Admin officer Top Panha and Press Attache Ken Gadaffi went in for the DRM while the other athletes and officials waited in the Reception area.

Home for TEAM Cambodia for the next 4 weeks.

Tired from the over 21 hours flight and 9 hours transit, the team went for a quick dinner and took a long deserved rest.

On Saturday morning, with their respective coaches, the athletes went for light work outs and gym works before a tour of the athletes village which will serve as home for them in the next 3 weeks.

Its interesting to see how quickly the athletes have gotten over the Jetlag ( probably it is too early to see) as they are so excited to be in Brazil among the world’s best athletes. With several other countries already in the Village, the atmosphere is bubbling with live and it is understandable why the athletes may have overcome the stress of the journey so quickly.
